JOHNNYROOK & VOCALIST PART WAYS:  SEARCH FOR NEW SINGER

It's been the better part of the last 7 years and unfortunately the time has come that we have to say goodbye to good friend.

Johnnyrook and our vocalist have decided to part ways. We love James to death, but both parties have just decided that it's time for a change. We wish our friend/brother the best of luck in his future endeavors and wish him thanks for all of the good times.

With that being said, we are now opening up the field and seeing what's out there.

We are not ready to see this end. We have an entire record already written and recorded, all it needs is your vocals. Nothing like jumping into an already established band!

We have had the opportunity to tour, play with some great national bands, and play a stage at the warped tour. We don't feel our run is over, we feel it has just begun.

Here's what we're looking for:

- Male/Female (we're open to all options...)
- Passion
- Dedication
- The will to succeed
- Strong melody lines
- Attitude/Personality that matches ours
- No Drama
- Previous Experience preferred...but not required
- Someone in the age range of 21-30

Here's what we need from you:

- Name/Location
- facebook/myspace page
- Previous recordings (people with previous work will be considered first)
- Goals/ambitions
- Influences

Think you have what we're looking for? We all hope so. Check out our stuff on Myspace and hit us back. We're excited to hear from you: http://www.myspace.com/johnnyrook

MAYPRIL MAYHEM

There are a bunch of guys here in Belgrade, MN that decided they wanted to see a variety of new music and maybe give a garage band a chance to show off their skills. It was at this point that they chose to set up a "BATTLE OF THE BANDS".

It is called "MAYPRIL MAYHEM". The event will be held at the VFW but none of those who are organizing it are being reimbursed in any way other than a good time listening to great music. There is a small entry fee, but that will all be paid out along with matching funds to the winning band. Although several flyers have been placed around St. Cloud and other cities in our area, it seems to me that a few words from you could have a far greater impact. Anyway, if you choose to do so, "MAYPRIL MAYHEM" is on April 24th. Bands must be registered by February 13th and all of the details can be found at www.septoberfest.net

Download Printable Show Flyer ( HERE )

Thank you very much and keep rockin!,
Craig

SUBURBS GUITARIST TAKEN OFF LIFE SUPPORT

Suburbs guitarist Bruce C. Allen was taken off life support on Monday, according to City Pages. The 54-year-old guitarist, who co-founded the Minneapolis-based band in 1977, was hospitalized at the city's Hennepin County Medical Center last week for uncontrolled bleeding. He ultimately suffered internal bleeding and organ failure.

Allen achieved national fame with the Suburbs in 1983 when the song 'Love Is the Law,' released on Mercury Records, became an early MTV favorite. A second song, 'Life Is Like,' also received network airplay when it was released in 1986. The group put Twin/Tone Records on the map, releasing its debut single in 1978. The albums 'In Combo' and 'Credit in Heaven' followed on the regional label, which was also home to the Replacements and Soul Asylum, in 1980 and 1981 respectively.

Allen -- who also worked as a graphic designer and was responsible for the album art on the Replacements' 1984 disc 'Let It Be' -- had an assortment of health problems in recent years, including triple bypass surgery in 2008. He also had symptoms of hemophilia and suffered from kidney stones.

A Minneapolis scene fixture in the Suburbs until their split in 1987 and subsequently with the Pilgrims, Allen also played in the X-Boys and reformed the Suburbs in 1993.

DEADWEIGHT LOOKING FOR NEW VOCALIST

Well, in case you may not have heard yet, here is the deal:  Joe has decided to leave us after the show with Flaw on November 12th.  The 3 of us are currently working on a bunch of new material and will keep going on.  We just need a singer.  I figured I would send all the bands we play with or have played and all the other people we worked with in the scene a message asking them if they know of anyone who might be interested.  You know our style from doing shows with us, so you would know if they are a good fit for what we are looking for.  if you do know anyone who might be interested, have them contact our MySpace or give me a call at 320-333-2859 to set up an audition with us.  Thank you very much

-Neil and the rest of the Deadweight crew

PUT YOUR BAND ON A ROCK BAND VIDEO GAME

We wanted to let you guys know about a service we just started offering. In November the game Rock Band is opening its doors to let anyone put their own music into the game.

In the November premier of Rock Band Network, they hope to have at least 200 new songs up and ready for purchase. At Atomic K Records & Productions, we have the skill set to author any song and get it in the proper formatting to be uploaded to Microsoft’s server. Very few people at this point have the software and know how to do this. We think it would be very beneficial for your band/label to be one of the first to feature your songs when the floodgates open. Please feel free to call us at any time to talk about the details.

Contact either: Karl Demer or Merritt Benton

FRIENEMY CHANGES / NEW NAME

Well to make things short a lot of changes have been made in the band. To start the big one: we have a new name. LAST REFRAIN. We ran into some trouble with our previous name Frienemy being trademarked, and had to stop using it. Also you will see that Myself (chad) and Josh will be switching roles in the band. Josh is a remarkable guitar player and we are excited to see what he can bring to the table.

We also have our EP getting finished up as I type this. Just waiting for it to come back from the mastering house and it will be all set to go. Look on our myspace for the new tunes to be posted.

New songs coming to, we have two finished right now and just putting the final touches on vocals, and one more new one in the works. We are hoping to have all three, yes all three ready to rock at our Nov. 27th show. Also there is a good chance we will have new T-shirts and Stickers for sale as well.

-Chad

AMERICAN HEADCHARGE CALL IT QUITS:

(August 11th, 2009) – MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - International recording and touring act American Head Charge is hanging up their hat and disbanding. Citing singer Cameron Heacock’s “inability to continue on a musical career path,” the Minneapolis based hard-rock/industrial band is changing their name and beginning the audition process for a new vocalist.

AHC, who have worked with greats like Rick Rubin and toured the globe extensively with such bands as Slipknot, Slayer, Mudvayne, and System Of A Down, see this as an opportunity to finally get the ball rolling.

“This is not the kind of news I enjoy being the bearer of, but we’ve been ready and waiting for input from Cameron for almost two years; we’ve written and recorded two albums worth of material in that time.” says co-founder and bassist Chad Hanks. “At this point, he no longer gives being in this band any sort of top priority, which is so sad seeing as how he has such an amazing and unique voice; I couldn’t wait to hear it on these songs.

“However, we’re looking forward to some new blood; a young, hungry soul that doesn’t sound like anyone else and is ready to work his ass off. We’re more than eager to get back to the mines. This is what we do.”

Vocalists can submit EPKs / demos to NewVocalist2009@gmail.com

well it was a bit of a rough start to this years event.  After a ton of rain, I'm hearing somewhere between 2-3 inches in less than an hour, the stage canopy was collapsed.  See the pictures at http://www.rockin101.com/allaccess/allaccess.htm.   The crew at the fair were ready for anything and got the repairs finished and the event was on....2 hours late but the show went on.

All the bands were cool about the start and it even worked out better for a couple of them.  Biletnikoff had a blowout on the way down and to top it all off they lost the spare too.  Half of Far From Falling were stalled out on I-94 due to a bad accident.

The Final Results were:

3rd Place - Silversmith

2nd Place - Hourless

1st Place - Far From Falling

Thanks to the Benton County Fair and all our sponsors for providing some great prizes for the winning band:

*  $101 gift certificate from Electric Fetus

*  $201 gift certificate from Al's Music

*  $251 cash from Bernick's/Sobe.

*  $600 (approx value) Full Day of Studio Time at Rockhouse Productions.  (8 Hours)

-------------

$1153 in total prizes to the winner!!!

All bands were amazing.

BLOOD ROOT MOTHER UPDATE:

Hello!

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time yesterday. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.

There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a tune called Run Bobby Run:

Let us know what you think!

Peace,
Elliot

THROW THE FIGHT VOCALIST DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER

Sad news in the Throw The Fight camp today. We just learned a couple days ago that our vocalist, James, has been diagnosed with testicular cancer.  He will be having surgery this coming Thursday and there is a period of 2 weeks where he will have to recover.

Since our show in Superior Wisconsin on June 20th falls in this 2 week window, we are going to have to back out of the show. At this point we are not sure if James will have to have radiation or chemotherapy after so it is possible that more dates will have to be canceled as time goes on.

The worst part is that James is currently living without health insurance and medical bills are expected to be well over $50,000.

It is possible that we will be setting up a benefit show for james in the next couple months. We will keep everyone posted with details of that if it happens.

If anyone was thinking of buying a shirt or cd lately, now would be a great time to do that. We will be giving the majority of all the money the band makes to James to help cover his costs. Thank you for all of your support!!

CENTRAL MN ROCK - DOT - COM

centralMNrock.com will be shutting down as of June 21st.  Big D, host of the site stated, "I gave it my best shot - spent a lot of time and energy pushing that old Pontiac down the Information Superhighway...Over the seven years of CMNR there were some really good times that I will miss..."

DRIFT EFFECT SIGNS 4 ALBUM DEAL

MINNEAPOLIS (May 1, 2009) —After four years, the Minneapolis-based rock group Drift Effect has recently signed a record deal with EliteROCK Records.

With many appearances across the United States, the five-man group has taken this crucial step in hopes of spreading their music to a wider audience. Drift Effect signed with EliteROCK Records in early March and joined artist, Science Hill under the newly formed label.

With three albums already under their belt, Drift Effect has showcased their talents not only to fans in the Midwest but on the 2006 Warped Tour and most recently at the 2008 Red Gorilla Music and Arts Conference in Austin, Tex.

In April 2008, Drift Effect debut their third album, titled The Center, an acoustic collection of songs from their first full-length album, titled Be Something.

Currently in the studio, the band is working on a fourth album due out this year. Ray Smart, lead vocals, said the band is starting fresh with new music and art concepts. The wide-range of moods on the album portrays the stories and experiences common throughout this generation.

“There are songs with a lot of texture and space,” Smart said. “There is also a feminine quality to them; meaning that the songs’ concepts embody the idea of listening to all sides of a situation and communicating with others rather than employing the more dominant male competitive drive.”

Some songs Drift Effect plans to feature on the upcoming album:

Dominie: a song about a terminally ill girl the band met at a show in the summer of 2007. Offers the idea that death is inevitable and what defines a person is how their life was lived.

She said: a song about domestic violence.

Cassandra: a song about being tired of the external and internal struggles of life.

Attica: a song about Smart’s brother and the issue that the past is a prison only if you stay there.

Plain: a song about spirituality and understanding that the idea of control is a fallacy.

EliteROCK Records is an independent record label currently supporting the work of two recording artists and 3 distribution artists; bringing in more than 10 years of experience to the table.

FAR FROM FALLING REPLACES LEAD SINGER

Minnesota heavyweights Far From Falling have replaced their lead singer with local phenom Harley Wood (formerly of Sunshine Behavior).  The coupling of these two have caused a widespread buzz throughout the scene even prior to their first live show together.  The current FFF disc has been picked up by 30 Best Buy stores in the region which was supported by an In-Store acoustic session with the new Far From Falling on Nov. 29th.  The first plugged in live show occured on January 9th at Trocaderos in Minneapolis where FFF blew the eager fans away with new songs, a killer choreographed light show, and a rowdy 300+ in attendance!  They will be in the studio in February tracking the debut EP due out this spring, 2009.  Far From Falling has finally taken it to the next level, do not miss seeing them with their new lead singer Harley Wood, as they get set to race outside of the Minnesota borders in no time.
